For parents
- Open an account and confirm your e-mail. The account is opened by someone aged 18 or over.
- Send a lesson request: subject, grade, language, format and suitable times. You only write your child’s first name.
- After your request we show you teachers who fit. You can choose one or leave the request open.
- Once a teacher accepts, they suggest a lesson time and you confirm it. You can write to the teacher under “Messages” on the lesson page.
- The teacher can set homework and short quizzes. Everything, together with the teacher’s notes, is collected in a progress report.
Group classes
- A teacher whose document has been checked can open a group class for up to 10 students. The class appears under “Group classes” after a coordinator approves it.
- A parent applies with the child’s first name and age group. If the class is full, the request goes on the waiting list.
- The teacher accepts or declines requests. If needed, they can remove a child from the class with a reason; the parent is notified.
- In a group video lesson the children see each other’s faces and first names. Parents’ contact details are never shown to other families.
For volunteer teachers
- Open an account and fill in your profile: subjects, grades, languages and weekly free times.
- After a coordinator checks it, your profile appears on the Teachers page. You can upload your diploma if you wish.
- In your account you see requests that suit you and accept one.
- You suggest lesson times and, after each lesson, write the topic, homework and a short note. The hours you teach are added up in your volunteer certificate.
Video lessons
Online lessons take place in ELMYOLU’s own video room. Lessons are not recorded. Only the parent and teacher of a one-to-one lesson can enter its room; for a group lesson, only the teacher and the students accepted into the class. The link opens 15 minutes before the lesson.
Support portal
- A family writes what they need, or a helper writes what they can offer. The name can be hidden on the listing.
- A moderator checks the listing before it is published.
- Someone who wants to help sends a contact request. When the owner agrees, both sides see each other’s contact details.
- The help happens directly, outside the site. There is no money aid. The listing closes when both sides confirm.
If something is wrong
Every teacher, lesson, class and message has a “Report a concern” or “Report” link. Coordinators and moderators review reports, and anything about a child’s safety comes first.
